Ingredients
Scale
Protein and Cheese:
- 6 large eggs
- 4 ounces (113 grams) smoked ham, chopped and divided
- 1.5 cups colby jack or cheddar cheese, divided
Vegetables:
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/3 cup chopped red bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
Crust and Seasoning:
- 1 9-inch deep dish pie shell
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375F (190C). Use a fork to gently prick the bottom of the frozen pie shell, preventing bubble formation during baking. Bake the pie shell for 5 minutes, then set aside to cool.
- Heat butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced green onions and chopped bell peppers. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until vegetables soften and become aromatic, maintaining their vibrant color. Remove from heat.
- Create the first layer in the pie shell by evenly distributing half of the smoked ham across the bottom. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the ham.
- Whisk heavy cream and eggs in a medium bowl until thoroughly combined. Incorporate garlic salt, black pepper, onion powder, and ground mustard. Gently fold in the sautéed vegetables, ensuring even distribution.
- Carefully pour half of the custard mixture over the ham and cheese layer. Add the remaining ham and cheese, then cover with the rest of the custard.
- Transfer the quiche to a baking sheet for easy handling. Bake at 375F for 10 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350F (175C). Continue baking for 30-40 minutes until the top turns golden and the center is set but slightly jiggly when shaken.
- Remove from oven and let the quiche rest on a cooling rack for 20 minutes. This allows the custard to firm up and enhances the flavor. Slice and serve warm for optimal enjoyment.
Notes
- Customize the filling by swapping ham with turkey or bacon for different protein options.
- Ensure vegetables are finely chopped and sautéed to release maximum flavor without making the quiche watery.
- Use room temperature eggs and cream for smoother, more consistent custard texture.
- Blind baking the pie crust prevents soggy bottom and creates a crisp base for the quiche.
